Where to start when you need to get a web site up and running.

Your web presence starts with the content you talk about all day long...

Getting a web presence is starting with content you already talk about.

Web design is a conversation. Nothing else.

You are sharing your story with others who are in search of interesting stories.

Your site needs to be interesting, but it also needs to be so transparent that you feel like you're standing buck naked in front of them.

People want authentic authority - you have to prove it to them.

But I could go on for days talking about how to build your website.

I've been doing web design since the late '90's. These days, I actually don't design or build people's websites for them any more. I also don't sell hosting. But it doesn't mean I'm not constantly putting up new and valuable content for people.

That doesn't mean I don't want to help you with your own web design needs.

This particular website is one which I've neglected for a long time, mainly because I was too busy doing other people's sites. Finally I wised up and found I could help more people by teaching them how to build sites than doing it for them.

A post like this is a way to get started helping people learn the vast amount of stuff I've accumulated over the years. The other way is to take the free course which is available online. (You don't even have to give away your email address...)

Because you deserve it.

There are also a number of books I've published on this. Here's two of them:

Online Sunshine Plan

The Online Sunshine Plan - How to Take Your Small Business Start-up Online, Profitably

Know these facts about Internet Marketing

  • 97% of what you find on the Internet about online marketing is bunk.
  • It may have worked for someone under certain special situations, but it probably won't work for most people.
  • What people call marketing itself is a crock.
You have to go back to the historical origins and operations of markets in order to understand why the Internet is wising up shoppers and making it nearly impossible for "college-trained marketing experts" to actually make any money online.
If you aren't doing what you love, and what you know will actually help people - you are doomed to failure, regardless of any fast or hard bucks you make right off the bat.
The answer is simple:
1) Know what you're doing.
2) Do what you love.

There's even a whole page to tell you just about it...

So, that will get you started.

I've got more to share with you in the days ahead, but if you study these books and the course above, you'll be well on your way.
